Former officer sentenced for sex trafficking
(WMC-TV) – Aformer Memphis police officer will spend one year and one day in federal prison after pleading guilty to taking several women across state lines to a Tunica hotel as part of what investigators called a "sex trafficking ring."
Sean McWhirter pleaded guilty to sex trafficking on October 7. He learned his sentence Tuesday.
The crimes happened on September 13 and September 16.
McWhirter agreed to take three women to Tunica f or the purpose of prostitution. He was on duty and in his patrol car at the time.
Three days later, while off duty, he drove two more women from Memphis to Tunica. When he entered the hotel room, he was arrested by special agents.
McWhirter was a patrolman with Memphis Police Department at the time of his arrest. He had been on the police f orce f or f ive years.
In addition to spending time in a federal prison, McWhirter will have five years of supervised release. There is no parole in the f ederal system.
